Bess was the 4th child of Pa Lou and Granny Donie.

She was born February 27, 1909.

She was married to Emmett Hodges. They were married August 18, 1935. They lived on Giles Street in Pembroke. The house they lived in has been recently demolished.

Bess passed away April 16, 1987. Emmett lived for another 6 years and passed away June 10, 1993. They are both buried in Birchlawn Cemetary in Pearisburg.
